Post created on July 15, 2022

69 days after his death, the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, sent a belated condolence message to the family of the composer of the NYSC national anthem, Oluwole Isaac Adetiran on Thursday.

Venerable Adetiran, an accomplished musicologist, died on May 6, 2022, at the age of 75.

He composed the NYSC anthem, “Youths Obey the Clarion Call,” in 1984 while serving as a Corps member at the Polytechnic of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the spokesman of Buhari on Thursday,  Femi Adesina condoled with the Adetiran family, their friends, and associates on the passage of an accomplished musicologist.

The President urged the family to take solace in the quality of life lived by the departed, having left his footprints on the sands of time as a composer of the NYSC Anthem, sung around the country, and inspiring innumerable youths.

Buhari prayed to God to rest the soul of the former Head, Department of Music, The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Director of Music, Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, and holder of the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) National Award.

He charged the younger generation to learn lessons from the devotion of the departed to both secular and spiritual things and excelling in all.
