BASKETBALL: D’Tigers beat Argentina in Las Vegas

Nigeria men’s senior basketball team, D’Tigers, are in good form ahead of the Olympics as they beat Argentina 95-71 in Las Vegas on Monday.

This comes just a few days after a shocking win over Team USA, the number one country in world basketball.

Nigeria’s senior team – D’Tigers have pulled off another upset, this time against the fourth-best team in the world, Argentina in in an exhibition game ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Detriot Piston‘s big man Jahlil Okafor led Nigeria with 15 points, while Josh Okogie and Chimezie Metu had 10 each.

Okafor said in his post-game interview,

“It’s been a lot of fun, we are trying to build something each and everyday,”

“Obviously we had a big win against USA and today the message was ‘let’s take care of business today’ and we certainly did.”

Okafor his 15 points off seven and eight shooting and he praised his teammates for giving him the confidence to do that.

Nigeria limited Argentina to 35.9 percent shooting from the floor while hitting 48.1 percent of its shots.

Nigeria didn’t make as many three-pointers as they did against the US team, but they attacked the rim better as Mike Brown’s team showed their versatility.

Many pundits and fans were blasting Team USA for losing to Nigeria, but it’s becoming clear D’Tigers are no pushovers. A 23-point win over Argentina shows Nigeria has the talent and coaching to make noise in the upcoming Olympics.

Nigeria will continue their preparation with a game against Australia on Tuesday.
