Post created on June 27, 2021

Senator Ugochukwu Uba and Valentine Ozigbo – two candidates from two factions of the People’s Democratic Party – have emerged to represent the party in the upcoming governorship election in the state.

This is as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it would comply with an Abuja High Court judgement dismissing the sacking of the Anambra State PDP executives.

Valentine Ozigbo won the PDP primaries of the faction that held their elections on Saturday at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center in Awka while Senator Ugochukwu Uba won that of the faction that held theirs at St. Paul University primary school Awka on the same day.

While Ozigbo won with 62 votes, Senator Uba won with 275 votes.

Announcing the result after the voting exercise at St Paul, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Captain Obidi Ebede, declared Senator Ugochukwu Ubah winner with 275 votes.

He was presented with a Certificate of Return.

While announcing the victory of Ozigbo, later on, Phillip Shuaibu Chairman of the electoral committee said 16 aspirants contested but three stepped down, including Dr Tony Nwoye.

In his acceptance speech, Ozigbo thanked leading members of the party and his fellow contestants whom he asked to work with him to achieve success.

Ozigbo won with 62 votes to defeat his closet rivals Obiora Okonkwo and Senator Uche Ekwunife who polled 58 and 44 votes respectively.

It is not really clear which of these two candidates will represent PDP in the November Governorship election.

Mr Ozigbo was the former President and Group CEO of Transcorp Group and current Non Executive Director of the organisation while Senator Ugochukwu Uba is the brother of Andy and Chris Uba.
